4 Signs Your Maserati May Need a Brake Repair

1. Your Car Pulls to One Side When braking

Usually, when your car pulls to one side, you have a problem with one of your wheel bearings. If your car only pulls to one side when you’re braking, you need to bring your vehicle in to have your brakes inspected.

This can be an indication of a bad brake hose. However, there may also be a problem with your brake caliper. If one of your brake calipers is bad, too much pressure will be applied to the other brake calipers, causing unbalanced stopping.

2. Your Brake Pedal Is Soft or Spongy

You need to bring your vehicle in for a repair right away if your brake pedal feels softer than it used to. If it depresses all the way to the floorboard and your braking distance has increased, consider driving a different vehicle until your brakes are repaired.

Soft brake pedals may be indicative of moisture or air in the braking system. However, there is also a chance that there is something seriously wrong with the master cylinder. If you have manual brakes, it is time to get your vehicle serviced if the pedal stops fewer than three inches from the floor. If you have power brakes, the pedal should be no closer to the floor than one to 1.5 inches.

3. Your Steering Wheel Shakes When You Brake

You may have an uneven rotor if your steering wheel shakes when you apply pressure to your brakes. Your vehicle slows when you apply your brakes because the rotors are hugged by the brake pads. When your rotors are smooth and even in thickness, you won’t notice any scraping, vibrating, or wobbling when you apply your brakes. However, rust development and other factors can cause the thickness of your brake rotors to change.

Even a minuscule change is noticeable. You may feel your steering wheel shake if there is the tiniest difference in disc thickness. However, a certified Maserati technician can true the rotor face.

4. There Is Brake Fluid Under Your Vehicle

If there is brake fluid under your vehicle, there may be a leak in your master cylinder. There are several reservoirs in your car that hold several types of fluid. You can most easily identify brake fluid by its smell. Brake fluid may be light yellow to dark brown in color depending on how old it is, but it will always smell like fish oil.
