3 Engine Problems You Should Only Repair at Your Maserati Dealer

June 17th, 2022 by

Your Maserati engine is the product of thousands of hours of design and engineering. It produces the power and control that are the hallmarks of the brand. Even the very best engines, however, need regular maintenance, or engine problems can develop. A Maserati mechanic is your first and best choice to repair any issue. As your Maserati dealer, these are some of the problems we can help you with.

Colored Exhaust Smoke

Your exhaust smoke should be white and whispy. If the exhaust produces black, blue, or white cloudy smoke, this means your Maserati engine is suffering and needs help. The different colored smoke represents three different problems. Cloudy white smoke means that coolant from your engine is leaking into the exhaust system and being expelled with engine gases.

Blue smoke smells like burnt oil, and this is caused by a leak of engine oil into the exhaust system from a damaged pipe or worn seal. Finally, black smoke is usually caused by a damaged catalytic converter. This converter isn’t able to remove dangerous carbon and other chemicals before they leave the engine. Our technicians have the knowledge and technology to repair any of these problems.

Engine Overheating

An overheating engine can cause serious, even permanent, damage to vital systems in your car. To keep your engine temperature under control, you have a cooling system centered around the radiator. Liquid coolant is continually pumped through the system to absorb heat and transport it to the radiator, where the heat is removed.

A jammed thermostat, a hole in a radiator hose, or a failed water pump can all disrupt the cooling system and place your engine in danger. If you see that your engine temperature reading is climbing, we advise pulling over and calling our service department ASAP. Our Maserati-trained technicians will find and fix the problem. Driving with an overheating engine can spell doom for this beautiful piece of engineering.

Electrical Problems

The electrical power your devices need is produced by your alternator. This device provides for all of your car’s electrical needs while you’re driving. It has a relatively long lifespan of eight years, but it will eventually wear out. When the alternator starts to wear out, it produces less power, and this means your computer will have to allocate power to the systems as needed.

The reduced power supply will be evident in power windows that jam open or closed, CD players that swallow your CD, and other electrical glitches. A worn-out alternator won’t damage your engine, but it will deprive it of the electrical power that enables the spark plugs and other essential systems to work. We can test your alternator and replace it if it’s the cause of the problems.

To keep your Maserati in the condition it deserves, and you expect, only the best service will do. If you have any problems with your engine, call our service department right away at Performance Maserati.
